Wiping its battered bloodied heart on its sleeve, LiveChinaMusic’s latest offering is a pressure cooker ready to burst - a canteen of pent-up emotions - angry, joy, pain, confusion, bewilderment - spilling forth across the floor in a feat of reckless abandon. One last grasp at glory - a rallying call or simply a middle finger to the world ahead of them. So let’s ‘bust at the seams’ this Friday, April 25th with emerging emo post-hardcore screamo act The Beneficial Society - known for their explosive and overwhelmingly cathartic sound - joining Shanghai’s own volatile post-hardcore trio LYSOMA as well as angst-driven alternative rockers Sleeping Sheep.
LiveChinaMusic is bringing punk and sludge to Cedar Kitchen—the place that’s business in the day, party in the night. The part-auto shop, part-live music/DJ venue and full-time tasty Lebanese restaurant, is welcoming SXNDPT TXRTL, the powerviolence duo that’s been bringing 20-minute bursts of chaos to Shanghai stages, Moya磨牙, the Shanghai punk outfit that’s been making waves recently, and Conch尼浊累, fresh off their four-date mini tour spanning across the mainland and Hong Kong, for a deafening night of Shanghai’s most intense acts.
A killer name of instrumental rock for those who like to veer off the beaten path - Yuyintang Park hosts a fantastic lineup of acts that big and small. On the docket, you’ve got Shaoxing instrumental rockers Chocolate Factory - who inject their sound with a delicate and subtle technical touch - luring listeners into their warm-hued world of math rock harmonic gestures filled with ups and downs and even a couple of emo-laced sing-a-longs. Also on hand, Hangzhou’s Reclock who have been amassing fans left and right for their tender evocative post rock vignettes. And representing Shanghai will be operatic post punk favorites Solid Liqui and hefty avant garde instrumental rockers An Corporation, prepping for their European festival date in May.
Haruna Kimishima, known by her stage name Haru Nemuri, is a Japanese singer, songwriter, and "poetry rapper". Her musical style mixes influences from J-pop, rap, post-hardcore, experimental pop, art rock, and electronica. It’s a bit dizzying how much is going on underneath the surface - with the artist not afraid to get volatile or let her emotions ok in raw fashion. She’ll be making her China debut over at Specters with support from local alternative hip-hop R&B singer Future Ghost.
Modernsky Lab continues to shine a light on Shanghai's emerging talent - with their Polymerize Lab series - giving bands a taste of the big stage - and giving folks here this an affordable and rollicking good time. And after a winter hibernation, they’re back! For their latest edition, they’re going full-on metal with a trio of acts who like to get heavy including Fuzhou nu-metalcore band Crisis, postcore/ avant-metalcore act Starry Nexus (who share both female and male singers), and symphonic deathcore band Celestial Shall Fall, both from Shanghai. Head bang your shitty Sunday workday away.
